Abstract:

Introduction. This article explores the specifics of emotional intelligence in students majoring in various fields of study, taking into account the manifestations of resilience and existential fulfillment. The article aims to identify the relationships between emotional intelligence, resilience, and existential fulfillment in students majoring in Humanities and IT fields of study.
Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of the study is the complementary approach (R. Lazarus, S. Folkman), the resource-based approach (S. Maddi, D. Khoshabay), and the metacognitive approach (I. V. Pluzhnikov, I. N. Andreeva). The study was conducted using theoretical and empirical methods. The data were processed using mathematical statistics. A total of 371 students from Kemerovo State University participated in the study: 213 students majoring IT fields and 158 Humanities undergraduates. In each group, the relationships between emotional intelligence, resilience, and existential fulfillment were analyzed.
Results. Significant differences were revealed in the manifestations of emotional intelligence among students of different fields of study. Students enrolled in IT fields demonstrated higher scores on parameters describing the ability to interpret and regulate their own emotional states, as well as higher levels of resilience and existential fulfillment.
It was found that emotional intelligence parameters directly correlate with indicators of existential motivation fulfillment; that is, a high level of emotional intelligence can be associated with a high level of existential fulfillment, and vice versa. Specific relationships between manifestations of emotional intelligence, resilience, and existential fulfillment were identified. Among IT students, stronger correlations were found between resilience and existential fulfillment and the ability to understand, recognize, and manage one’s own experiences. Among Humanities students, close correlations were found between resilience and existential fulfillment and the ability to adequately interpret the emotions of others, accept them, and choose acceptable methods of regulation.
Conclusions. The results of the study revealed direct, close, and quantitatively dominant relationships between resilience and existential fulfillment and intrapersonal characteristics of emotional intelligence students in the IT fields of study. The findings support the rationale for considering the specifics of students’ conscious regulation of their own emotional expressions in relation to the personal characteristics they manifest as subjects of their academic and professional activities in the educational process.
