2 Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "South-Ural State Humanitarian-Pedagogical University"
Introduction. Despite its high prevalence, procrastination in primary school age remains poorly understood which requires a detailed study of its causes determined by the personality traits of children. The purpose of this study is to identify the degree of procrastination in primary schoolchildren and its relationship with their individual personality traits.
Materials and Methods. The methodology of investigating procrastination is based on the interdisciplinary approach covering psychological (motivational, cognitive, emotional) and behavioral aspects. An empirical study was conducted using the survey of schoolchildren aged between 9 and 10 years (n = 56), which included evaluating the degree of procrastination, impulsivity, responsibility, school motivation and self-esteem among primary school students. The statistical method of the Fisher angular transformation was used to process the data.
Results. The authors have established a predictive relationship between the procrastination behavior of primary school students and the following personality traits: the inability to control their motives, emotions and actions, the inability to realize the consequences of their actions, as well as the lack of desire to perform actions aimed at achieving educational goals.
Conclusions. The authors conclude that there is a relationship between procrastination in primary school children and personality traits including impulsivity, learning motivation, and responsibility.
