The specifics of historical education, cultural and historical heritage as resources for the formation children and youth’s civic identity

Abstract: 

Introduction. The article focuses on the theoretical and methodological foundations of developing civic identity in young people, the potential of historical education, cultural and historical heritage as the most important resources against the background of insufficient effectiveness of moral educational work conducted the current situation. The purpose of the article is to identify the specifics of historical education, cultural and historical heritage as resources for the formation of children and youth’s civic identity.
Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of this study is the cultural-historical, axiological, anthropological, system-activity, and personality-centered approaches. The study uses complementary theoretical (analysis of theoretical provisions, generalization and systematization) and empirical (examining teaching experience, surveys) methods, techniques of collecting and processing research data (quantitative and qualitative analysis of research data, tabular and graphical method).
Results. The author obtained the following results: identified and described the potential of cultural and historical heritage and historical education in solving the problems of forming the civil identity of an individual, overcoming the intergenerational gap, forming historical memory and preserving the history of peoples and Russia as a whole, consolidating society and ensuring social stability, solving the problems of moral education and education; revealed the problems of forming children and youth’s civil identity; identified the complementary potential and mechanisms of historical education with the focus on cultural and historical heritage in forming the civil identity of an individual; clarified the content and methodological tools for developing civil identity for students of primary, basic secondary, secondary, and secondary vocational education.
Conclusions. Historical education and cultural and historical heritage are the meaning-forming components of moral education and the most important resources for the formation of children and youth’s civic identity in changing historical and socio-cultural conditions, taking into account the tasks of education, continuity of content and forms of introducing students to the history and culture of the country, region, and place of residence.
