Evaluation of psychoemotional status and oxidative stress indicators in senior school-age boys with exogenous-constitutional obesity
Introduction. Obesity in school age, in addition to metabolic and biochemical disorders, can affect the psychosocial adjustment of adolescents in the educational process. A significant cohort of patients is made up of senior boys. The aim of the article is to assess the indicators of psychoemotional status, oxidative stress and their relationship in senior school-age boys with exogenous-constitutional obesity to justify the need to improve health-preserving programs.
Materials and Methods. The work used methods of clinical examination, questionnaires, analytical, fluorometric, enzyme immunoassay and statistical research methods.
Results. The analysis of coping strategies in senior school-age boys with exogenous-constitutional obesity revealed a decrease in the frequency of patients with relatively productive mechanisms in cognitive, emotional and behavioral coping strategies. In this group, a decrease in the number of children with a low level of anxiety, hostility, irritation, negativism and guilt has been detected. The study also revealed individuals with a high level of these reactions. At the biochemical level, boys with exogenous-constitutional obesity showed higher rates of DNA destruction - 8-OHdG and the oxidized form of glutathione (against the background of reduced values of its reduced form). The study found significant correlations between the indicators of the level of anxiety and α-tocopherol, the level of depression and 8-OhdG, the level of irritation and 8-OhdG, the feeling of guilt and 8-OhdG, emotional coping and GSSG, the level of negativism and GSH.
Conclusions. Negative changes in psychoemotional status, as well as high intensity of oxidative stress reactions in senior school-age boys with obesity determine the need to improve health-preserving programs in the context of the educational process.
