A study of the basic national values of modern youth: An expert view
Introduction. The article examines the problem of formation of basic national values in modern youth within the context of large-scale socio-cultural transformations. The purpose of the article is to identify the features of formation of basic national values in modern youth based on the generalization of expert opinions (teaching staff of educational institutions)
Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of the study is a systematic approach to the problem of forming basic national values in modern youth. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the authors used theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, systematization) and empirical data collection through interviews with experts, and methods of statistical data processing. The research sample consisted of 33 experts (teachers, heads and deputy heads of educational institutions subordinate to the Department of Education and Science of Moscow).
Results. The article presents an analysis of scholarly sources and regulatory documents on the research problem, defines the concept of ‘content of basic national values’, identifies effective forms of moral educational work with young people, the main sources of obtaining information about basic human values, determines the means of encouraging young people to participate in events to form a value system; clarifies the role of the family in the formation of value orientations of young people; offers recommendations for the study and formation of basic national values in modern youth.
Conclusions. The comparative analysis of theoretical sources on the research problem and the summary of expert opinions of teaching staff from educational institutions enabled the authors to conclude that the formation of basic national values in modern youth in the context of a transforming society must be carried out on the basis of an integrated approach. The basis of this process is the constructive interaction of teachers with the parent community, the use of effective forms of moral educational work, demonstrating social agency and moral standards of behavior by teachers in order to attract young people to participate in events.
