Abstract:

The article presents the problem of manipulating the consciousness of an individual and social consciousness with the help of speech. the material of the story “Thunderstorm. 1987” by L. Yuzefovich shows, that the success rate of manipulation is largely dependent on psychological and speech influence of the manipulator if the latter is flexible in their use. The author points out some features of the speech portrait of the modern teacher. The analysis of the text shows that the attitude toward teenagers is specified in the desire to command them, striving to obtain unilateral advantage. By identifying with their social group, the teacher becomes a conductor of its normalizing impact and disclaims any significant share of his responsibility. Using the authority of the community, he employs the opportunity to influence the others to achieve his own goals. The attracted language material illustrates aggressive intentions of the speaker – a traffic police officer. Reported speech constructions, journalistic clichés, intriguing intonation and other “compelling mendacity” is used for manipulation. Another audience manipulation technique is the method of false accusation and embarrassment Manipulation may harm the manipulator’s self because using unfair methods he may lose some important moral criteria. Deformation of the manipulator’s personality may occur. The author concludes that an insufficient level of general and speech culture, lack of psychological preparation does not permit the “educator” to achieve his goals and overcome the negative attitude of teenagers in general.
